To donate blood you will need to:
  • be generally fit and well
  • be aged between 17 and 65
  • weigh between 7 stone 12 lbs (50kg) and 25 stone (158kg)
  • have suitable veins (they will check these before you donate)
  • meet all donor eligibility criteria (they will check this with you before you donate)

Join the stem cell register

Children with cancer sometimes need a bone marrow transplant.

While around 30% find a match in their family, a huge number need an unrelated donor, so we partner with national charity DKMS to organise swab drives, promote stem cell donation and bust myths about what’s involved.

  • If you are aged between 17 and 55 years and in general good health, then you may be able to register as a blood stem cell donor.
  • If you register when you are 17, you will not be able to donate blood stem cells yet, but on your 18th birthday, you will automatically be activated in the DKMS database and included in the global donor searches.
  • If you have previously registered with DKMS or another donor centre, there is no need to do so again, as you will already be available for searches worldwide.
  • If you have been diagnosed with any chronic or serious illnesses (whether current or in the past), please check with DKMS before signing up.

Join the stem cell register as a young person

When you turn 18 you can enlist on the worldwide bone marrow donor list.

If you become a match for a patient, anywhere in the world, you will be asked to donate your stem cells/bone marrow to potentially save their life.

If you are over 18 please click here.

If you are turning 18 soon, fill in our pledge form below to BECOME A DONOR when you turn 18, we will send you a reminder on your 18th birthday!
